Josh Meyer to lead USD 320

The USD 320 Board of Education in a special meeting tonight unanimously selected Josh Meyer to be the new Superintendent of Schools. In a 6-0 vote, with member Deb Long absent, the board voted to hire Meyer at a salary of $158,000 a year, with a start date of July 1, 2025. He is currently the Superintendent for USD 350, St. John-Hudson.

The USD 320 Board of Education Monday night unanimously accepted the resignation of Wamego High School Principal Julie Schrum. The resignation came as part of the personnel report handled with routine multiple consent agenda items at the regular board meeting and not acted upon separately. Schrum was hired by the board four years ago to begin with the 2021-2022 school year. Scott Meitler, assistant superintendent, updated the board on the progress of early education in the district.
Lady Raider softball sweeps Clay Center

The Lady Raider softball team April 7 played its second double header of the season, hosting the Clay Center Lady Tigers. Wamego won both games. The opening match up only went three innings, as Wamego quickly amassed a 15-0 lead, triggering the 10 run rule. The first inning was scoreless for both teams, but the Lady Raiders picked up nine runs in the bottom of the second inning and six in the bottom of the third.
Raiders clawed by Panthers in twin bill

The Wamego Red Raiders hosted the Clay Center Panthers April 7 in one of their few home outings this season, falling in both games of the double header. Wamego was short by a run in the opening game, 4-3. The first two innings were blanks on both sides of the scoreboard, but the visiting Tigers plated an unanswered runner in both the second and third innings to go up 2-0. Clay Center then added another pair of runs in the top of the fourth, 4-2.
Wamego splits twin bill with visiting Blue Jays

The Wamego Red Raidesr on Friday hosted the 6A Junction City Blue Jays, coming away with a doubleheader split. Wamego fell to the visitors in the first game, 6-3, but came back to win the nightcap, 3-0. Junction City took a quick lead in the first game, holding the Raiders scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, where Wamego tallied all three of its runs. The first run came when Brodie Cottam singled on a bunt to third base. Cooper Niedfeldt scored on an error from the third to first baseman.
Raiders, Lady Mustangs take ‘Freezing’ crowns

The Raiders and Lady Mustangs Friday split the “Freezing Falcon” crown as the Wamego boys and Rock Creek girls took team firsts. Rock Creek’s boys were second at the Riley County meet and Wamego’s girls were fifth. Elijah Bell was a triple gold medalist for the Mustangs, winning the triple jump, long jump and anchoring the winning 4x100m relay team. Kylee Frazee also earned that honor for the girls, winning the 400m, and running on the 4x100 and 4x400 teams.
