The ICB running cost envelope is to be reduced to £18.76 per head, according to an NHS England draft blueprint of the future model of ICBs.The chief executive of NHS England, Sir James Mackey, revealed last month that the variation in spend per ICB per head currently ranges from £49 to just less than £21 per head.

Digitising the NHS and adult social care will take an estimated £21bn over the next five years, according to research by the Health Foundation. The research looked at what investment was needed to achieve existing ambitions for digitisation, including electronic patient records infrastructure, cloud storage, cyber security and wifi. It found that £8bn was needed in capital spending, £5bn of that on England alone, for hardware and software.

Healthcare workers in England are to receive training on how best to support veterans, the Government has announced on the 80th anniversary of VE Day. The new three-year £1.8m programme will see regional trainers work with GP practices and mental health services to help identify veterans, serving personnel and their families, and to provide ‘targeted’ care. It will also help ICBs deliver their statutory responsibilities under the Armed Forces Covenant.

Greater Manchester has the highest number of GP practices due to receive premises upgrade funding, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has announced. The £100m funding for estates was initially announced in the autumn budget in October, with plans to upgrade 200 GP estates across England. However, the DHSC has today said that 1,027 practices spread out across the 42 ICBs will receive funding to create additional space, boost productivity and improve patient care.

Today (6 May), NHS England revealed that an AI-driven 3D heart scan has cut the need for invasive tests and saved millions of pounds after being rolled out across 56 hospitals in England since 2021.
