I'm the only rabbi in my region for about an hour's drive in either direction. I get all kinds of interesting people reaching out to me. Someone brought me a collection of gold teeth that they'd bought at an estate sale. They were told that the teeth were taken from Jews in the Holocaust. I set them aside for a long time. Wherever these teeth came from, there's depravity surrounding them. Nobody ends up with gold teeth through good circumstances. They're now in a blue velvet jewelry bag.

Bintel disagreed with a recent New York Times Work Friend column in which a boss asked if it was OK to make a Jewish employee work on Christmas and other major Christian holidays. This boss allows the employee - who is the sole Jew on staff - to take off Jewish holidays like Passover and Yom Kippur without using paid time off. The letter-writer said the worker is "double-dipping" by getting both the Jewish and Christian days off.

Dear Bintel,I love Judaism and Jewish culture. I would love to convert and be a part of the tribe, but I don't intend to undergo circumcision, and I don't want it for my future children, either. My family - at least recently, I don't know about earlier, maybe, but who knows? - isn't Jewish. What should I do? What can I do? I would love for an answer or somebody to ask if possible. I've wondered about this for years. I live in Sicily.

Dear Bintel,I'm reaching out on behalf of a friend. She married a man who belongs to a synagogue in an affluent suburb. Going to shul there, they got to know another couple and started dining out together. On three occasions in a row, the other husband found something wrong with his meal and sent it back to the restaurant kitchen. Then my friend threw a surprise birthday party for her husband and invited 75 guests, including the other couple.

By Beth Harpaz April 11, 2025Dear Bintel,For the past several years, I have been invited to a Passover Seder at the house of a distant relative who is a rabbi. There are normally a dozen or so attendees, mostly family members or significant others of family members, and space sometimes gets a little tight.A friend of mine just moved to my city and asked me if I knew of any Seders he could attend.
