    Rashadah Jordan, a mentor with PAthways Rashadah Jordan didn’t have anyone to guide her on her path to becoming a physician assistant. Her mother was a licensed practical nurse, but she was balancing 12-hour shifts with being a single mom. No one else in her family was in medicine. Her only point of reference was a YouTube influencer known as the PA Coach, and a PA she met in 8th grade through a program designed to introduce students to healthcare careers.

And for doctors in particular, it turns out that there’s another advantage as well: pay equity. In a number of specialties, the pay gap between men and women all but disappears in locum tenens roles, according to staffing firm CHG Healthcare .
