For the toffee sauce100 ml double cream40 g dark brown soft sugar15 g unsalted butter1/2 Tbsp. golden syrupFirst, poach the pears. Heat the caster sugar and 600ml water in a medium pan over low heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Peel pears, leaving stems attached, then halve lengthways and core neatly (we used a melon baller). Add pears to the pan along with the orange zest, making sure pears are covered with liquid. Bring to the boil then simmer for 10min, until pears have started to soften.

2 medium apples – peeled and sliced¾ cup brown sugar4 tablespoons butter½ teaspoon vanilla – divided1 teaspoon cinnamon – divided6-8 slices white bread2 eggs – lightly beaten½ cup milk1/3 cup – flouroptional: powdered sugarAdd apple slices, brown sugar, and butter in a medium sauce pan. Cook over medium high heat until brown sugar has dissolved and butter has melted. Add 1/4 teaspoon vanilla and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and reduce heat to simmer. Cook 6-8 minutes longer.
