The GlenAllachie debuts Meikle Tòir

The GlenAllachie has revealed its new peated single malt Scotch whisky brand, Meikle Tòir. Meikle Tòir, which translates to ‘big pursuit’, represents Walker and his expert team’s seasonal peated campaign at the distillery which began in 2018. Using mainland peat from St. Fergus, the peated production runs for around six weeks per year, producing approximately 100,000 litres of alcohol annually.

Littlemill has unveiled its latest annual release, The Vanguard Collection: Chapter One, a 45 year old whisky drawn from the oldest and rarest reserves of the Lowland distillery. For this expression, Littlemill has collaborated with British artist Vic Lee, who has worked with brands such as McLaren, Nike and Atkin Guitars.
FEW Spirits releases whiskey with Alice in Chains

American whiskey maker FEW Spirits has released a bourbon with Seattle grunge band Alice in Chains. The All Secrets Known Bourbon (101 proof, 50.5% ABV) was produced by FEW at its distillery in Evanston, Illinois and finished for six months in ex-Tequila casks. Just 3,300 bottles are available. The whiskey's release comes as Alice in Chains prepare to kick off their latest US tour, which includes dates with Guns N' Roses.
Royal Salute unveils second Art of Wonder release

Royal Salute has unveiled the second release in its Art of Wonder collection combining experimental art pieces with its famous blended Scotch whisky. For the second iteration, Royal Salute partnered with sculptor Conrad Shawcross. He was inspired by the concept of time in both fine art and premium whisky in the creation of his piece, Royal Salute Time Chamber by Conrad Shawcross, which holds a bespoke 53-year-old Royal Salute blend.

Bourbon giant Buffalo Trace is to open an American whiskey experience in London. The Buffalo Trace Distillery London, which will be located in Covent Garden, is set to open in late 2023 and will offer visitors the chance to get closer to Buffalo Trace and its whiskeys in what the company says is a first-of-its-kind tasting experience.

For those who indulge in the occasional (or more regular) purchase of a bottle of ‘nice’ whisky, I’m sure many will have faced this conundrum at one time or another: can I afford this bottle? Or, perhaps more accurately: is it worth what I’m being asked to pay for it? This question of affordability is one that can only really be asked of optional or ‘luxury’ purchases (you can’t, for example, put your utility bills back on the shelf one month if you’re a bit cash strapped).

Aberfeldy has released the latest expression in its Red Wine Cask Collection. The new 18-year-old single malt was finished in ex-Cabernet Sauvignon barriques from California's Napa Valley, following maturation in a combination of refill casks. First launched in 2019, the annual Red Wine Cask Collection has featured finishes in red wine casks sourced from France and Italy, as well as the USA. Last year's release, a 15-year-old, also utilised Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon casks.
