The monthly meeting of the NEK Friends of Hospice Volunteers was held on Wednesday, Aug, 28, 2024, at the Horton office. Those in attendance were President Rosemary Schooler, Secretary Betty Robison, Historian Dixie Westervelt, Charene Branch, Marty Mercer, Social Worker Kendra Cowley, and Volunteer Coordinator Michelle Bottom. President Schooler called the meeting to order just after 9:30 a.m. The minutes of the July meeting were available for review.

The annual Hospice Volunteer training was held on Wednesday, May 22, at the Tim Lentz Community building. Everest Middle School teacher receives 2024 BC-KARSP Scholarship

Kyli Brenner, the fifth grade Social Science and Science Teacher at Everest Middle School, was presented with a certificate as the recipient of the 2024 BC-KARSP Scholarship. Dugan Shoemaker, a 2008 graduate of Horton High School, presented a program in his authentic Civil War uniform at the Brown County Kansas Association of Retired School Personnel unit meeting on March 11th, 2024. Dugan has had an interest in Civil War Reenactments since he was in high school and has participated in several events over the years.
