Every once in a while, a midnight doom scroll will lead you away from a nightmare news landscape and into a rabbit hole of “Oh, yeah, I forgot they made that.” This time, a 900-horsepower drag-racing Toyota Camry popped up. It’s not a random garage project either, but a sleeper build developed in-house. The year was 2014, and the all-new 2015 Camry was on sale. As far as redesigns go, the sedan’s next-gen looks were bolder but, you know, for a Camry.

Over twenty years ago, a video of a Lexus LS400 seemingly defying the laws of physics shocked the world. Riding on a prototype electromechanical proactive suspension developed by the audio company Bose, the luxury sedan bunny-hopped over curbs, skipped individual wheels over potholes, cornered completely flat, and held its body perfectly level at speed over undulating pavement. It looked like magic, and to some degree it was.

A Ferrari Roma was purchased from a luxury dealership in Denver and shipped to a luxury dealership in Minneapolis. Except the Italian sports car never arrived, having allegedly been picked up by a phony company. Now, both seller and shipper are being taken to court. Swapping stock between stores is a humdrum, everyday occurrence. Even when the cargo includes high-value products, the process remains the same: getting from point A to point B.

Next time you rent a car, AI might be the one doing the spection to determine whether you’re on the hook for a repair fee. That’s because Hertz is deploying more than 100 AI-powered vehicle scanning systems to its U.S. airport locations by the end of the year. Hertz has partnered with UVeye, a company specializing in automated vehicle inspection systems, to conduct scans of its rental car fleet. Globally, that fleet includes more than half a million vehicles.
