Following last week’s Supreme Court ruling that the legal definition of a woman in the 2010 Equality Act excludes transgender women, an emergency demonstration was organised in London and 24 other cities around the country. In the capital, the demonstration began with 20,000 people gathered at Parliament Square, many engaged in quiet conversation, some already chanting.

The sixth annual London Trans+ Pride took place on Saturday. This grassroots event began with just 1,500 trans people and allies (including Brooke Candy), marching through the streets of the capital. The crowd seems to double in size with every year, and this time 55,000 marched in their beauty, power and pride. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, you’ll know that times are tougher than ever for trans people in the UK.
