Melodic metalcore powerhouse Wage War have unveiled their first new single since the 2021 studio release Manic. “MAGNETIC” is a catchy, melodic tune that serves as a departure from the heavy in-your-face sound that the group is usually known for. When somebody says “that’s music to my ears”, this is what they mean. I’m sure of it. Dayseeker have released just a perfect acoustic cover of the Evanescence classic “My Immortal”, taken from the band’s 2003 debut album Fallen. This comes as the latest release to be included on their upcoming acoustic album Replica, which is due out on April 19th. Dayseeker captures the feeling of the song while putting their musical stamp on it, and I couldn’t help but smile throughout listening to it.

Family first. Ben Bruce is the guitarist and founding member of the metalcore juggernaut Asking Alexandria. Bruce has played on each of the band’s eight studio albums, and has been the primary songwriter since the group formed in 2006. In a statement shared on Asking Alexandria’s Instagram story earlier today (Jan. 19), the guitarist thanked fans for their “years of love and support” before explaining that “it’s time to dedicate my life to my family.

Sleep Token fans are speculating and panicking after the band wiped their Instagram account of all posts and changed their bio to “Nothing lasts forever.” While this is not a new trend, and bands have been clearing social media accounts for various reasons for years, this one seems a bit more extreme as the timing suggests that it’s because band member birth certificates were leaked online. When it comes to an empty social media account, it’s all speculation.

The official music video for Disturbed’s track “Don’t Tell Me” featuring Ann Wilson of Heart has been released. The video, which showcases silhouetted lovers who drift apart as the video progresses, comes just days before Disturbed is set to hit the road with Falling In Reverse and Plush for the “Take Back Your Life” tour. Wilson talked about working with Disturbed, talking about how a particular cover stuck with her. “I was honored when I got the call from David Draiman.

Why not end the year with something new? That’s just what alternative metal outfit Evanescence did, releasing a new music video for their single “Yeah Right” on New Years Eve. The video, directed and edited by Eric Richter, includes live performance clips filmed on the band’s October 2023 Latin American tour as well as the gothic, almost Fallen-era visuals Evanescence is known for.

What a year for music. So many incredible bands putting out such incredible music, made it very hard to narrow down a top 5. Last year for both Decker and I, it seemed pretty cut and dry to us who our favorites were gonna be. This year we were struggling well into December trying to make our picks, and we think we’ve done it. As with last year, these are our opinions, and they have nothing to do with popularity or commercial success.
