    Ustad Bashir Ahmed Khan, one of the most prominent tabla players of the country, passed away in Karachi on Thursday after a brief illness. Indian classical music aficionado and producer Sharif Awan told The News that he met Ustad Bashir a few weeks ago and he was in perfect health then. Four to five days ago, he fell ill which resulted in his death. His funeral prayers will be offered today after the Juma prayers at the Masjid-e-Aqsa in Nusrat Bhutto Colony.

Basir Sultan Kazmi, a prominent Urdu poet based in United Kingdom who has been on a visit to Pakistan, made these remarks on Thursday at the launch ceremony of the fourth collection of Nasira’s poetry titled ‘Bay Mausami Khwahishein’ held at the Arts Council of Pakistan.

    Offering several instrumental and vocal performances of the Indian classical music as well as screenings of films based on arts, the three-day 22nd Annual Festival of the All Pakistan Music Conference Karachi concluded on Sunday. The conference was held at the National Museum of Pakistan’s auditorium with free entrance. The event is normally held in the first quarter of the year but it was organised a little late this year, in the month of April, probably due to Ramazan.
