    John Pfeiffer of Somerset passed away on November 17 at St. Peter’s Medical Center in New Brunswick. He was 95. Born and raised in Highland Park, he lived in Somerset for over 60 years. He was the owner and operator of P&S Builders in Somerset before his retirement. Previously he owned and operated a music store in Metuchen. John served in the US Army during the Korean War.

    Voters in Fire District 3 on November 18 approved the purchase of fire apparatus and command cars for the East Franklin Volunteer Fire Department and Community Volunteer Fire Company #1. The approvals came in the form of a special election to decide the two questions. More than 90 ballots were cast, a high number for a fire election.

    Somerset County earlier this year assumed the $89,266 it cost to clean up unauthorized work at Marconi Park, and will not seek reimbursement from the Marconi Foundation, which started the project without proper permission or permits. The Marconi Foundation – a Foundation started in the early 1990s to recognize the achievements of inventor Guglielmo Marconi – in late 2023 began an unauthorized redevelopment project at the park, which is bordered by Easton Avenue and John F. Kennedy Boulevard.

    After a 5-year hiatus, the crowds returned to the renewed Middlebush Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary’s Tricky Tray fundraiser on November 16. Held at Thomas J. Kavanaugh VFW Post 2290 in Manville, the event drew more than 300 people and raised more than $8,000, according to Sandra Reier, the Auxiliary’s vice-president. The money raised goes toward capital improvements at the Middlebush VFD headquarters on Olcott Street, she said.

    A steady stream of holiday shoppers filled the Franklin Township Senior and Community Center November 16 for the Township’s first Holiday Craft Market. Spurred by the success of prior craft markets held at the Township Gazebo, the Holiday Craft Market drew a line at the Center’s front door before it opened. A large variety of crafts were offered for sale, ranging from jewelry to holiday decorations, to art.
