The Surf Rodeo is back in Ventura. It’s that goofy and fun celebration by the sea, heavy on the surf but light on the livestock, coming to the Ventura County Fairgrounds this weekend — Friday and Saturday to be specific. The current version of this commotion by the ocean will be held at a new location but with better surf than ever before for the surf contest, along with the usual quota of frolic and foolishness, a bunch of bands as well as endless elbow-bending opportunities.

Long ago, having adopted “Keep on truckin’” into a viable worldview, the Drive-By Truckers will deliver their big-rig version of Southern Rock/Country Rock/Americana and other foot-moving musical genres to the Ventura Music Hall on Monday night, June 24. As to longevity, the Truckers are nearing the big 3-0; they started in 1996 with a revolving cast of characters since then. Jason Isbell was the most famous alumnus, but guitar players Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley are the only constants.
