"You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain." That's Harvey Dent from The Dark Knight, of course. And yes, he's on this list of major characters who have displayed true heroism only to, by their own volition, throw that away. In other words, there's no Jack Torrance from The Shining here. Because to call him a "hero" even in the first act of Stanley Kubrick's film is quite the stretch.
