FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Professor Longya Xu has been named to the 2024 Class of National Academy of Inventors Fellows. Xu, who joined the college in 2023, is an expert in high-performance electric machines, power electronics and digital technology. During Xu’s career, he has developed applications for electrified transportation, renewable energy systems and the aerospace industry.

A Florida State University research center is making a positive impact on literacy, at home and around the world. At an open house last month, the Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR) opened its Innovation Park site to the public to showcase initiatives to help educators and the groundbreaking research led by the center’s dedicated faculty, students and staff. “The research portfolio here is huge,” said FCRR Director Nicole Patton Terry.

At just a few atoms of thickness, 2D materials offer revolutionary possibilities for new technologies that are microscopically sized but have the same capabilities as existing machines. Florida State University researchers have unlocked a new method for producing one class of 2D material and for supercharging its magnetic properties. The work was published in Angewandte Chemie.

FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Professor Hui “Helen” Li has been named to the 2024 Class of National Academy of Inventors Fellows. Li is the FSU Provost McKenzie Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and for the past 20 years has led power electronics research at Florida State University’s influential Center for Advanced Power Systems, or CAPS. She is a renowned expert in the power electronics field with a worldwide reputation for electronic devices.
