WARE — Summer has not officially arrived but that’s not stopping Ware’s Young Men’s Library Association from kicking off its summer reading program for the children. Children’s Librarian Cathy Goulet said the library gets busier with more children coming in as the end of school approaches, good timing for the start of the project designed to encourage and maintain reading as part of the day.

BELCHERTOWN — At its June 13 special meeting, the Select Board voted to endorse the final agreement between Belchertown, Wilbraham and Hampden with regard to regional dispatch services. Town Administrator Steven Williams said the shift is part of move towards more efficiency in the town emergency dispatch services for police and fire. “This process has been nearly three years in the making,” he said.

LONGMEADOW — The town’s June 11 election decided contested positions within the Select Board and School Committee while other seats ran with solo or no candidates listed on the ballot. Andrew Lam will join incumbent Joshua Levine on the Select Board, Lam amassing 1,692 votes to Levine’s 1,149 and first-time candidate Leah Petersen’s 1,049. Lam offered his gratitude to the community and fellow candidates.

PELHAM — Budget allocation for the Quabbin Health District’s Public Health Excellence Grant met with approval at a June 6 meeting of the health district’s Board of Directors at the Pelham Library. The district serves as a comprehensive regional health department, jointly managed by its associated communities. The PHE allotment is awarded annually to the district, which serves the communities of Belchertown, Ware and Pelham.

WARE — A collection of work by award winning artist Deborah Padden is featured this month at the Pinney Gallery, located in the Kent Memorial Library in Suffield. Calling it a mixed exhibit, Padden said there are examples in a variety of themes for visitors to see. “I have a myriad of work in there,” she said. “There are portraits, landscapes and still life.”Padden, a Ware resident for the past 18 months, lived in Brimfield previously and said she began her artistic endeavors nearly 30 years ago.

WARE — Derek Morrison, the new principal at Ware Junior Senior High School was officially introduced by Superintendent of Schools Michael Lovato at the June 5 meeting of the School Committee. Morrison, who comes to the position after more than two years as principal at Greenfield High School began his Ware transition on June 3, nearly a month earlier than his expected July 1 start. Lovato noted that Morrison is already getting to getting know people and went on a field trip with students.
