I wish to thank the Festival of Arts Board for addressing my frustrations over the difficulty of staging concerts at our precious and iconic Irvine Bowl. I am heartened to see you agree that “live concerts benefit everyone,” and that you are “motivated to ensure their success.” So, let’s turn that motivation into action. It’s time to take a hard, solutions-based look at what’s been inhibiting concerts and how to overcome them.

Back in 1995 - just 30 years ago, - the Irvine Bowl was used for what it was always intended – a concert venue, with a Fall live music series alongside the 8-week summer run of Pageant of the Masters. It was a Jazz & Pop lineup that included, chronologically, comedian Howie Mandel, the Temptations and the Four Tops, Peter, Paul & Mary, Salute to Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Grover Washington Jr. and Bobby Coldwell, Toby Keith, Salute to Benny Goodman, Lorrie Morgan, and The Village People.

“Oh, what a night. And I felt a rush like a rolling bolt of thunder. Spinning my head around and taking my body under. Oh, what a night!” ~ The Four SeasonsI’m, of course, talking about the 1st Annual Laguna Achievement Festival (aka LAF Awards), produced by KXFM Radio and held last Saturday night at Seven-Degrees. No one could have anticipated the raging desire this community had to gather together in stoke! And what a bright, colorful mélange of Lagunans in their finest plumage.

There’s just one week until KXFM drops Laguna’s instantly legendary all-time party of the year – the 1st annual “Laguna Achievement Festival,” aka the LAF awards – at the ever-swanky Seven Degrees. It’s Saturday, March 29, from 5:30 p.m. until late. Be a part of history in the making. If you thought our relaunch party last fall at the Rivian was a rager, you ain’t seen nothing yet. If you think Sawdust Locals and Hospitality Night are the bigs, think again.
