1 INTRODUCTION Dental implants are a reliable and effective alternative to conventional tooth-supported prosthesis for the replacement of missing teeth, offering improved clinical outcomes (Pjetursson, Brägger, et al., 2007; Pjetursson, Sailer, et al., 2007).
