INTRODUCTION The introduction of plastics to society in the 19th century ushered in a new age of materials that are used in everything from packaging and toys to automobile parts. The lightweight and highly malleable nature of these materials makes them ideal for manufacturing purposes and creates barriers to protect items such as foods from external elements (Andrady & Neal, 2009; Biron, 2016; Geyer et al., 2017).

Historically, we have seen that late fall and winter are critical times for remembering safety principles, especially when the barn is empty during cold weather when ventilation is reduced. A minimum ventilation rate of 1.8 CFM could result in a methane concentration of approximately half the explosive limit.
