Synodontis Cuvier, 1816 is a species-rich group of African catfishes. Prior to this analysis, 13 species of Synodontis were recognized from Lake Tanganyika and its tributaries, composing the only extant lacustrine radiation of the genus, with a unique origin of obligate brood parasitism among all fishes. Species differentiation and phylogenetic relationships of this group remained largely unresolved.

Both used strains were obtained from cow rumen: X. ruminicola KHP1 was isolated in New Zealand during the Hungate 1000 project [32] while the S. bryantii TF1-3 in Sweden in 1990 [4]. The type strains of these species have been isolated several decades ago and it was felt that strains with considerably less passages would better reflect the original species nature.

Environmental contamination with pesticides and other xenobiotics, such as metals, can result in a reduction of honey bee (Apidae: Hymenoptera) populations (vanEngelsdorp and Meixner 2010). Anthropogenic emissions, especially industry, are the main cause of environmental contamination with metals. Metals can be found in air, soil, and water (Lloyd and Showak 1984, Schacklette and Boerngen 1984, Holmgren et al. 1993, Meng et al. 2016).
