A Northampton County man was one of the first allied soldiers to infiltrate a highly prized Nazi encampment, just days before the war ended in Europe. Billions of Catholics around the world are focused on Vatican City. Locally, a special mass is being held this morning marking the start of the historic event. Catholics around the world are keeping a close eye on the Vatican as they await the announcement of the church's new pope. "A conclave is first and foremost a spiritual moment," Allentown Diocese Bishop Alfred Schlert said in his homily. Catholics in the five-county Allentown Diocese are praying for those 133 cardinals as they go about their secret task of selecting the next pope. The bishop led a special Mass on Wednesday morning at the Cathedral Church of St. Catherine of Siena in Allentown.
