CHICAGO — One of the perks for a 10-win football season at Illinois: extra attention from the state’s largest city. On Tuesday, Bret Bielema received the royal treatment from Chicago, including a 20-minute radio appearance on WSCR The Score’s “Mully & Haugh Show.”Co-hosts Mike Mulligan and David Haugh, a former Ball State defensive back, were effusive in their praise of the Illinois program and Bielem’a role in fixing it.

Greetings from "Can't Wait For Saturday," your morning morsel of college football, courtesy of longtime Illini beat writer, AP Top 25 voter and Heisman state rep Bob Asmussen. He'll give you his views each day on the game he loves. ***Picking a starting quarterback can be tricky. Even frustrating. Some schools seem adept at it. The guy who just produced the first 10-win season at the school in 24 years is climbing the Champaign-Urbana popularity charts. Want proof? The Illini Quarterback Club's annual golf outing at Atkins filled up like never before. It's a good problem for the Quarterback Club, which provides funds for the football program.

Thanks to longtime #Illini fans the Coadys for their help with this story. John and Kathy seem like the kind of grandparents we would all want or aspire to be like. Bob Asmussen | Illini super fans sample every sport ... in one year https://t.co/kfGrmg3wg5 via @news_gazette

As I count down to the start of the #Illini season in 98 days, it is good to know the College Football Playoff is more in order. Will Illinoi make it? Can't Wait For Saturday | Again, why did it take so long to get to a 12-team playoff? https://t.co/xzrNRsMMt8 via @news_gazette

Always great to catch up with former #Illini receiver Chris James, now doing a stellar job as coach at his alma mater Morgan Park. He had plenty to say about Nasir Rankin. Bob Asmussen | 'It's like a college coach built him in a lab' https://t.co/4pVtaByTKt via @news_gazette
