CONNEAUT – While going through some of the scrapbooks donated to the Conneaut Area Historical Society, Kathy Warnes, a historian and author, stumbled across a set of striking photographs from the site of a tragic train accident. Seeing that another Conneaut historian, Bob Blickensderfer, had taken the photographs, Warnes decided she needed to tell the tale of the tragedy.

CONNEAUT – A recent water main break tested the City of Conneaut’s water department. City Manager Nick Sanford was impressed with the way it was handled. “On the water side, everybody knows, if you tune in to Channel 3, there was a water main break over the last week at West Main and Gore Road,” Sanford said during a regular city council meeting on Monday, Jan. 13. “I do need to give props to our water distribution teams.

CONNEAUT – The snowstorm that devastated Ashtabula County during the Thanksgiving holiday is the “gift” that keeps on giving for the City of Conneaut. City Manager Nick Sanford notified city council of the latest problem uncovered during a regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 13. “We had an impromptu inspection down the street here on Main Street, with one of our buildings, local businesses,” Sanford said. “There were structural deficiencies that were brought to my office’s attention.

CONNEAUT – No matter a person’s age, there are a number of advantages to joining a dance class. As winter moves toward its end, the Conneaut Arts Center is providing the opportunity for dancers of all ages and skill levels to explore just what those advantages may be with its spring dance session. “Dance overlooks all of the social and emotional, just everything, physicality,” Jordan Jones, Conneaut Arts Center administrative assistant and dance instructor, said. “It’s great for kids.

ASHTABULA – As the calendar approached the end of August, my grandfather asked me what I thought about Ohio State heading into the college football season. Without hesitation, I said, “Papa, I think it’s going to be a magical season.” It was the easy answer. At the time, experts around the nation were calling our beloved Buckeyes the most talented team in the country. My answer, however, was not rooted in the wins or losses I saw coming over the next five months, however.
