On Saturday just passed ABC Darwin broadcast a piece by local reporter Olivana Lathouris about housing at the small Aboriginal community of Binjari. Binjari is a fly-speck town just off the main road west of Katherine, 300 kilometres south of the Northern Territory’s capital Darwin. The major premise of the ABC’s piece is that for all his grand promises about housing Prime Minister Albanese and his Labor government have let the people of Binjari down.

After predictions of a dire summer rain-wise in these parts, we’ve been blessed with a late season monsoon descended on the Top End of the Northern Territory. The NT isn’t alone in getting a good drenching this summer, with Cyclone Alfred taking a slow stroll down the east coast and a large, slow-moving tropical system flooding much of the centre and inland parts north and east. One thing that marks a local up here is the welcome given to a good dose of rain.
