Fifty years ago, Tom May played a few songs for him in Omaha, Nebraska. That began a long friendship with Gordon. Gordon suggested that Tom come to Canada and try his luck there, and he offered to help make connections. Friday, November 17 25 artists saluted Gordon Lightfoot to a sold-out crowd to honor his 85th birthday at the Alberta Rose Theater.

Fortunately, most artists play three sets throughout the weekend. Three of the artists marking their first appearance at the festival were Siri Undlin, the songwriter behind the band Humbird. From Minneapolis/St Paul, Minnesota, Siri embodies the narrative folk song and balladry tradition in her music.
