LAPORTE — LaPorte County police are investigating the death of a 50-year-old Michigan City man, who was found lying unconscious on an access road just east of County Line Road. Officers responded around 5:11 p.m. Monday to the 3600 north block of County Line Road where they found Nicholas Irvine. "Life-saving services were provided to Irvine at the scene by responding personnel," police said. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

LAPORTE — A 22-year-old man is dead after being thrown from his vehicle early Tuesday after running off the roadway, according to LaPorte County police. Officers responded around 2:51 a.m. Tuesday to the area of County Road 300 East south of Ind. 4 for a report of a crash. Police said they learned a white 2019 Ford driven by Macayla Boone, 22, of LaPorte, was traveling south on 300 East when it went left of center and off the east side of the road.

UNION TOWNSHIP — Porter County police say a locked safe installed in the center console of a vehicle posed little challenge to them discovering a variety of illegal drugs during a Monday night traffic stop involving a driver with a prior conviction for drug dealing. A county officer reported stopping the vehicle shortly before 10:30 p.m. Monday in the area of U.S. 30 and County Road 600 West after witnessing the driver swerving on the roadway.

Indiana State Police say they identified more than 200 violations Friday during a one-day blitz on commercial trucks travelling along the state's entire stretch of U.S. 30. The list included speeding and seatbelt violations, and other violations resulting from truck inspections, ISP reported. "The Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division remains committed to ensuring commercial vehicles remain compliant with applicable laws and regulations," ISP Sgt. Dale Turner said.
