NEWPORT, N.H. — While it has been in the works for more than three decades, the community center in Newport is coming into form structurally, with officials eying a December completion date. On Monday afternoon, Newport Recreation Director PJ Lovely Jr. led a tour through the 19,500-square-foot building currently under construction on Meadow Road. A ribbon cutting date hasn’t been set, but the town is looking at a goal for the first week of December being finished.

NEWPORT, N.H. — The Newport School Board voted unanimously to approve the Edward J. Carr Newport Firefighters Association donation of $31,425 in honor of former fire chief. A public hearing was held on July 11 at the start of the board meeting, where Superintendent Donna Magoon explained that this will be awarded to the son or daughter of a Newport Fire Department member who is continuing their education after graduating from Newport High School or a secondary education institution.

CLAREMONT, N.H. — Claremont Police Chief Brent Wilmot is inviting the public to a chance to not only get to know the city’s officers and personnel, but also drop him into a pool of water in a dunk tank at the annual National Night Out on Aug. 6. This is the fourth year that Claremont has been participating in National Night Out, with Sgt. Trevor Dickerman taking the lead on the endeavor.
