A daycare in Westport, Ont., has been shut down after serious allegations of child abuse. The Ministry of Education launched an investigation into Westport Daycare on May 29 after a complaint about safety concerns. An inspection report alleged several troubling incidents, including staff holding children down on cots, force-feeding, grabbing children, and withholding food as punishment. Four individuals, including licensee Wanda Seward, were named in the report.

The Town of Smiths Falls has lowered its flags to half-mast to honour The Reverend Gervis Beecher Black, who passed away after a life of remarkable public service. Black served as a town councillor from 1966 to 1969 and made a lasting impact in the United Church of Canada, preaching in multiple Ontario communities, including Smiths Falls. He was also known for hosting CJOH’s “Quest” TV program for seven years, running for Parliament, and serving as a special assistant to the Minister of Transport.
