By Bob Steenson, [email protected], dry weather has helped crops take root and fieldwork move forward across Iowa, including in Floyd County and the surrounding north central district. According to the latest Iowa Crop Progress & Condition Report, released Monday, June 2, farmers in the north central reporting district which includes Floyd County had 97 percent of their corn emerged as of Sunday, June 1. That’s the highest rate among the nine reporting districts in the state.

By Bob Steenson, [email protected] Charles City man has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a minor. Joshua Dean Jasso, 33, entered an Alford plea in February to one count of third-degree sexual abuse involving a teenage victim. The charge is a Class C felony under Iowa law. The incident occurred in April 2024 in Nora Springs, according to court records. Prosecutors said the victim was 14 or 15 years old at the time. Jasso was 32.

Dakota James Christensen, 32, is charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony, in connection with a Sept. 18, 2024, incident involving property belonging to the Charles City Housing Authority.

By Bob Steenson, [email protected] rural Elma man has been charged with four counts of attempted murder of peace officers after allegedly shooting a firearm or firearms at law enforcement during a confrontation at his rural Howard County residence Wednesday afternoon, May 28. Mark Michael Zweibohmer, 45, was taken into custody at his home in the 16000 block of 160th St., according to court records filed in Howard County District Court. The address is about 10 miles east of Elma.
