COACH DICK SCOTT – SIDNEY ST. PATRICK’S HIGH SCHOOLDick’s journey began in the mid-1960’s playing Eight-Man high school football in Merriman, Nebraska, but he is most well-known for the powerful Sidney St. Pat’s teams he coached in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Beginning in 1975 as one of the original 4-teams to participate in the 8-Man state playoffs, Coach Scott built the Shamrocks into one of the state’s premier football programs over the next 15 seasons.

DENNIS THORELL – LOOMIS HIGH SCHOOLIn the Early 1960’s, Dennis was a 4-time, 3-sport letterwinner for Loomis. He excelled in both basketball and track- but it was his explosive skills on the gridiron that brought him to the Eight-Man Football Hall of Fame. In 1961 and 1962, Dennis led the Wolves to a 16-game winning streak, back-to-back undefeated seasons, and two Fort Kearney Conference Championships.

DAN GALL – LEIGH HIGH SCHOOLDan was an outstanding athlete for the Panthers and Coach Wayne Morfeld in the early 1980’s. In his junior year of 1983, he helped his team to a 10-2 record and a state semi-final appearance. Then in 1984, he led the Panthers all the way to an undefeated season and the Class D-1 State Championship. While amassing over 2,000 yards of total offense (39 TD’s), Dan was named 1st Team All- Conference, 1st Team All-Area, and 1st Team All-State.

CURT LENNERS– FILLEY HIGH SCHOOLFrom 1989 to 1993, “Crazy-Legs” Lenners was one of the best athletes to ever play Nebraska 8-Man Football. Standing at an imposing 6’3 and weighing over 200 pounds, Curt was a menacing physical presence in the Wildcats backfield. In his prep career, he tallied some 6,000 all-purpose yards, including rushing for over 2,000 yards in the 1992 regular season.

CORY HOLL – ELWOOD HIGH SCHOOLFrom 1984 to 1987, Cory was a dynamic 3-time 1,000-yard rusher for Hall of Fame Coach Kevin Mahlberg and the Pirates. During his decorated time in high school, he amassed over 5,200 career rushing yards and 56 touchdowns while helping his team to three consecutive playoff runs- including rushing for 1, 868 yards as a senior and leading Elwood to the 1987 State Semi-Finals.

We Did It! The History of Nebraska 8-Man Football is finally current and (complete) from 1954 to 2024. The journey has been long and difficult at times, but never tedious. A labor of love of the 8-Man Game if you will. A salute to 2024 coming this afternoon.
