Both Reece James and Nicolas Jackson were missing from Chelsea's training session on Monday, just less than 36 hours before their final FIFA Club World Cup group match. The Blues were being put through their paces in the boiling hot heat - 35 degrees Celsius to be exact - in Philadelphia, but there was no sign of James or Jackson. For the latter, it is a bit more understandable given he is suspended for the Esperance match anyway because of his red card in the defeat to Flamengo.

Chelsea face off against Esperance later this week in their final match of Group D. In order to progress into the knockout stages of the FIFA Club World Cup, the Blues just need to avoid defeat against the Tunisian side in Philadelphia. However, Enzo Maresca will have to do that without Nicolas Jackson, who was shown a straight red card minutes after coming on the pitch in the 3-1 defeat to Flamengo on Friday.

At one point in the January transfer window, Chelsea were seriously considering making an official offer to Manchester United for Alejandro Garnacho. The Blues were - and still are - after a left-sided winger and Garnacho fit the profile of what they were looking for. However, Chelsea stood firm and decided against making a proper move for the Argentine winger. Instead, the club waited until the summer before assessing their options.

Once again, Enzo Maresca left Chelsea supporters confused - and some a bit disappointed - by not using Andrey Santos as the Blues fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Flamengo on Friday. Chelsea were defeated in their second FIFA Club World Cup match to make qualifying for the round of 16 that bit more complicated. The Blues will still fancy themselves to make the knockout stages but the defeat in Philadelphia was far from idea for Maresca and his players.

Chelsea have been fairly busy behind the scenes in the summer transfer window as the club's sporting directors look to provide Enzo Maresca with the necessary tools to compete on all fronts next season. It has been a successful debut campaign - which has been extended due to the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup - at Stamford Bridge for Maresca.
