    The DA in Johannesburg has laid criminal charges of culpable homicide against Helen Botes, the CEO of Johannesburg Property Company (JPC). This comes after a tragic fire incident at the Usindiso Building at 80 Albert Street in the city centre on August 31, 2023, which resulted in 77 fatalities. Nicole Rahn, the DA’s Johannesburg caucus chief whip, said the charges are based on serious negligence and failure to act, which allegedly led to the deaths in the city-owned building.

    Two people have been sentenced after being found guilty of fraud and money laundering involving R2.3-million at Workforce Staffing, one was spared after turning state witness.     ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has announced that his party will table a draft resolution in the National Assembly to scrap the broad-based black economic empowerment policy. Mashaba was speaking at the Apartheid Museum on Tuesday, alongside Michael Beaumont, Lerato Ngobeni, Nasiphi Moya and Kgosi Letlape. He said this resolution, in terms of Rule 119, will call for the creation of an ad hoc committee to look into economic transformation laws and suggest urgent reforms.
