Because it will last you the better part of a lifetime, a high-quality Dutch oven is one of the most important kitchen buys you will make. And anybody searching for one typically hits the same fork in the road: Staub versus Le Creuset. They aren’t the only good Dutch ovens on the market, but these two French brands hold a special place in the minds of many home cooks thanks to their reputations for longevity and quality.

Serves 4What's better than everyone's favourite oozy, creamy party dip? That very same dip transformed into your next quick meal. Frozen spinach and canned artichokes join forces with penne to live their best cheesy life. And if that isn't enough, it all comes together in just one skillet – no separate pot needed to boil the pasta.

Serves 4Shelf-stable gnocchi makes this play on potato-leek soup a breeze to bring together. Parmesan rind and bright caramelised lemon are the keys to transforming store-bought vegetable broth into a rich, complex base.

Often—and erroneously—described as a flower, the hibiscus we cook with is actually a collection of sepals (known as a calyx), the part of a flowering plant that protects the bud and supports the petal once in bloom. Before the plant flowers, the calyx resembles a pointed bud, holding the seed pod, but it unfurls as the flowers push through the pod.

Strawberry shortcake is a classic for good reason. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be improved. To modernize this spring favourite, I indulged my natural desire to go big or go home. The result is an enlarged-to-the-umpteenth-degree dessert fit for a crowd. Unlike traditional shortcakes that are individually portioned, this version stacks the cake into layers to up the drama factor. The vibe shifts from small and finicky to playful and party-ready.

Known as ‘Molokhia’, this Middle Eastern soup is easy and nourishingThe silky, spiced broth comes together while the rice cooks and the onions quick-pickle. My family is loud. New boyfriends, girlfriends, and “just friends" who are visiting get advance warning about what to expect when joining us for a large gathering: It’s going to be loud and you will be asked a lot of questions.

We love a recipe with a twist. It’s why we put miso in an otherwise traditional blueberry cake, tahini in a classic chocolate brownie, and cheddar Cheez-Its in a straight up apple crumb bar. That said, we won’t riff on every bit of nostalgia that pulls at our heartstrings. No? Don’t believe me? Have you seen Chris Morocco’s new recipe for a diner-style chocolate pudding pie? It’s epic. It’s delicious.

All you need is some rice to soak up all that spiced, coconut-y goodness. This chicken curry recipe is a winner. I feel you: There's something about the word "curry" in a recipe title that might make you swipe left. You might think that it's going to take a lot of time, or require a bunch of of ingredients that you don't know how to find.

Chia pudding is my Platonic ideal of a packed breakfast. It’s high in protein, omega-3s, and fiber. I can prepare a batch on Sunday for the rest of the week. All I need are two ingredients—milk and chia seeds. And I can switch up any add-ins (like matcha powder and maple syrup) and toppings (like nut butter and granola) depending on my mood. But as we get into the colder months of constantly reapplying hand cream and wearing too many layers to count, I find myself craving a cozy breakfast.
