    The South African Revenue Services (SARS) has announced the official start of the 2025 tax filing season, effective from July 7 to October 20. During this important period SARS will automatically assess the income-tax returns of most taxpayers. The category of taxpayers who are automatically assessed will be notified via email or SMS. Taxpayers who do not receive an auto assessment notification from SARS are required to file a tax return from July 21.

    The Mpumalanga MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, has identified the practical handover of the Mkhondo Boarding School as his immediate priority. He made this statement on June 12 during an oversight visit, part of the department’s final preparations to hand the facility over to the Mpumalanga Department of Education. Thomo said that only minor works remain to ensure the school meets all required standards and specifications before it can be occupied.

    The deputy minister of higher of education and training, Dr Mimmy Gondwe’s student helpdesk also known as the DM’s Helpdesk, gave the students of Ehlanzeni TVET College Mbombela Campus first-hand access to resolve their academic challenges such as funding. This formed part of the Gondwe’s Youth Month Community Outreach Programme in partnership with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) to support students on June 17.

    A vehicle caught fire on the R40 just past the turn-off to Bundu Lodge, heading towards Rocky Drift, earlier today, June 18. The incident was reported at about 10:30. No occupants were found in the burning car, which was parked in the emergency lane. According to an eyewitness who reported the fire via Nelspruit Traffic’s Zello channel, the driver managed to pull over and exit the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames.
