Restaurant chain Hooters suddenly closed more than 30 locations across multiple states on June 4. What about the Mississippi locations? Earlier this year, Hooters filed for bankruptcy. When the proceedings started, the company ran about 151 restaurants, and franchisees ran approximately 154. The plan was for all restaurants to become franchises, with the corporate-owned ones going to a management group run by the chain's founders.

Naegleria fowleri, a brain-eating amoeba, lives in warm freshwater and can enter the nose during water activities. Infections are rare but often fatal, causing primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM). Avoid getting water up your nose in freshwater, use sterile water for nasal irrigation, and be cautious with non-chlorinated pools and splash pads. Symptoms of PAM resemble bacterial meningitis and include headache, fever, vomiting, and stiff neck.

Wildfire smoke from Canada and Saharan dust are impacting Mississippi's air quality. The smoke is expected to remain through midweek, creating vibrant sunsets and sunrises. Saharan dust, arriving later in the week, can suppress hurricane development. Both smoke and dust can cause respiratory issues, especially for those with pre-existing conditions. Mississippi is in for a double whammy this week. The first rounds of Saharan dust are set to sweep across the coast midweek.
