Webster Parish deputies are currently investigating the deaths of former parish Registrar of Voters Melanie Smith and her husband Kenny. Sheriff Jason Parker said the bodies of the couple were found inside their home in the 5500 block of LA Hwy. 528 shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday. Deputies were dispatched to the residence in response to a call for a welfare check, Parker said.

An ordinance approved last May to establish the City of Minden’s Adjudicated Property Program has already begun to pay off with the first public auction and sale of two parcels. “The first piece of property we sold went for $26,000,” said Minden Mayor Nick Cox. “So it was insanely successful for an adjudicated sale.”The sale went through the city’s contract with E&P Consulting, headquartered in Monroe.

If you don’t know the definition of brownfield redevelopment, don’t feel alone. Jamie Greene, a representative of Strategic Planning, told Minden City Council members recently that the city has opportunities to increase property values by enhancing the community’s infrastructure through brownfield redevelopment as the city grows. “You will make sites safe for future use, making them safer for the community,” Greene said. He went on to describe “brownfield” as abandoned industrial sites.
