I think it is safe to say that Kamala Harris is now President-elect! The Madison Square Garden rally in New York should have clinched the deal for Harris and Walz. When I was five years old my mother brought me my first kitten. I named him Lucky. Ever since, I have never been without a cat in my life. Cats are delicious and smart and loyal. So when Trump and Vance start insulting women, as they often do, I just get angry. And I reach for my devoted pussycat Cutiepie who loves to curl up inside my silk jacket which I leave on the chair next to mine in the den. Then Cutiepie curls up and falls fast asleep.

I’m Back!It has been nearly a year since I wrote my last weekly column. Here is what happened: I developed a violent cough while I was down the shore, in Ventnor, for the last weekend of summer 2023. By the time I pulled into my driveway, I was coughing so had that I could barely see to exit my car. Fortunately, my friend Pat Macksey and one of my home health aides were there, took one look at me and decided that they had to get me to Lankenau hospital’s emergency room right away.

This past week, with its unbearable descriptions and testimony of survivors of the Hamas massacre in Israel along the Gaza border, seemed an appropriate time for me to visit the special exhibit at Har Zion Temple: the Dr Gilbert Tabby Holocaust Memorabilia. In 2003, my synagogue, Har Zion Temple, hosted guests from Whitwell, Tennessee. We called them “the Paper Clips” folks. It seems a non-Jewish teacher wanted her students to learn what the murder of six million Jews might look like.

This past week has been a nightmare. Who would ever have dreamed that Hamas would have invaded Israel and decimated the peace-loving, peace advocates of so many kibbutzes along the Gaza border!Gunning down young people who attended a peace and love concert in an open field. Dragging women and children and older Israelis off to Gaza to use as human shields. The poet Nelly Sachs once wrote, “O the chimneys” — her lament about the Holocaust and the concentration camps.
