Antisemitism reared its ugly head in an evil way in Washington. D.C. when a beautiful young couple, Sarah Milgrim and Yoran Lischinski, were just leaving the Capital Museum after a reception for Israeli Embassy staff members and other young people who believed in peace. The reception was also a fundraiser to assist Gaza residents in this continuing time of crisis. Just as the couple reached the outside of the Jewish museum, a man came up behind them and shot them both dead.

When Har Zion Temple in Penn Valley started planning their centennial celebration two two years ago, they asked two couples who are longtime active members to accept the challenge. Andrea and Ron Robbins and Nancy Ford Grossman and her husband Michael welcomed the volunteer assignment. Their first job was to track down the company which represented Howie Mandel and secure a contract for him to perform on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

It must have been just a few years after President Jimmy Carter and his beloved First Lady Rosalynn decided that North Philly was an ideal site for a week’s visit in July to work on their favorite charity, Habitat for Humanify. I do not recall how Temple was selected.

If you noticed a long line of automobiles on Sunday, Nov. 24, heading to Penn Valley and Har Zion Temple’s parking lot, it was because of the Birthday Bash which was taking place. One hundred years to celebrate the existence of the synagogue. And hundreds of congregants, families and friends showed up to join in the celebration.
