Former British PM Boris Johnson’s memoir Unleashed imagines him, like Cincinnatus, leaving his plow, saving Rome, and returning to it. But given that Boris is among the international elite, perhaps Alcibiades (c. 451-404 BC) would fit him better. Athenian elites had long had connections with the other powerbrokers of the classical Greek world, Sparta and Persia.

Unleashed by Boris Johnson Boris Johnson’s Unleashed is an important historical document, but not necessarily a valuable one. Any historian who approaches it is likely to at least partially remember the bit from GCSE history about the reliability of sources. The reason Johnson, a biographer of notoriously dubious merit, has turned to autobiography significantly earlier than he would have liked is because his party correctly calculated that the country could no longer believe a word he had to say.

In the week Labour announced plans to release rapists and killers early, there's one prisoner who poses no threat - free Lucy Connolly now! https://t.co/nCe9imYlQ7

The Chagos surrender is beyond belief. Why are we paying a foreign country up to £30bn to take an asset that belongs to Britain? Why are we damaging our long-term national security? Starmer looks like a man with a bizarre and pointless fetish for self-mutilation.

Sad to hear of the loss of Patrick O’Flynn - a truly original conservative journalist who grasped the causes of much of the current discontent. His pieces were always punchy and persuasive. He will be missed.
