    Ontario Parks says restoration plans are being developed for Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park after last weekend’s storm.  “The storm, which included a microburst, resulted in extensive tree damage and hazardous conditions throughout the park,” states the Parks Alert web page. “Emergency workers have been actively working to assess the damage, clear debris, and provide assistance to those affected.

    Over 5,500 lbs of food has been delivered to the North Bay Food Bank, thanks to the community and the Purolator Tackle Hunger Red Bag campaign. Held from June 14 to 21, the campaign saw 2,000 red bags dropped off throughout the area, with residents asked to fill up the bags with non-perishable food items. The filled bags, which were left on doorsteps, were then collected by Purolator employees and brought to the food bank.

    The heat warning continues for our area. Environment Canada says dangerously hot and humid conditions will be continuing today and ending tomorrow (Tuesday) night. Daytime highs of up to 33 degrees can be expected, with humidex values hovering around 40. The agency is reminding you to check on older adults, those living alone and at-risk people multiple times a day. Officials say to watch for early signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others.

    Check your lottery tickets. Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) says the winning ticket for the $34 million LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball Jackpot from Saturday night’s draw (June 21, 2025) was purchased in North Bay. OLG says this is the second time in a row that the LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball jackpot was won in Ontario. The May 7 jackpot of $60 million was won with a ticket purchased on OLG.ca.

    (Update: 8 pm)The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reports Highway 17 has fully reopened following damage due to severe storms on Saturday night. The road was closed between Corbeil and Mattawa after the storm, then partially reopened earlier Sunday evening before being fully reopened. Police say approximately 290 people have been evacuated from affected provincial parks (Samuel du Champlain and Kiosk).
