Two United States senators made news in the same week in March. Jeanne Shaheen, the senior senator from New Hampshire, and Alan Simpson, retired senator from Wyoming, were in the news as she announced she was not running for another term, and he died. Both are significant for the same reason, even thought they were very different. Shaheen came to New Hampshire from the mid-South when she met Bill Shaheen, from New Hampshire, when he was in law school in Mississippi.

SYNOPSIS:I imagine that hardcore Hitchcock fans may have various polarizing reactions to My Name is Alfred Hitchcock, Mark Cousins’ documentary that has Alistair McGowan imitating the director’s trademark voice in a narration written by him, but I found it a fascinating, illuminating look at a prolific career. It’s now out on Blu-ray in the United States with a handful of extras.

Edward M. Shapiro, former president of New Hampshire College, now Southern New Hampshire University, died on Jan. 7, at the Elliot Hospital, where he was born, and was a former trustee. He was 91. Shapiro was educated in Manchester schools. When his dad died in the early 1950s, Shapiro was a young person without a lot of direction due do learning disabilities.
