Norwegian stop motion filmmaker Ivo Caprino took nearly five years to bring his tiny race car vision to life on the silver screen in 1975. “The Pinchcliffe Grand Prix” began as a series of shorts intended for a 25-minute television program on regional television based on the books of Kjell Aukrust, but after 18 months of work the project was scrapped for being largely incomprehensible and way over budget, so Caprino had to finish it on his own.

The Vanderbilt Cup of 1904 was the first major trophy in American auto racing, in fact the first of its kind in the world. This massive international affair was held on a 30.24-mile course on Long Island in New York, drawing some of the biggest names in racing at the time. William Kissam Vanderbilt, II put up a healthy prize for the winner, and cast a two and a half foot tall silver cup that everyone wanted to win.
