BackgroundThe stigma associated with mental illness has wide-reaching and detrimental effects on those who experience it, including depression, low self-esteem and broader inequalities in life chances (1–3). The past 30 years has seen an intensification of anti-stigma campaigns across Europe seeking to target and ameliorate these harmful consequences.
