This week, agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement sent former Tamaulipas Governor Tomas de Jesus Yarrington Ruvalcaba to Mexico. Mexican authorities took him into custody as he awaits trial on federal corruption and embezzlement charges. The deportation came after he completed his sentence in the United States. Since a different political party currently controls Mexico than Yarrington’s, he does not have the government protection he previously enjoyed.

The arrest occurred over the weekend at the Hidalgo Port of Entry, a criminal complaint filed by agents with U.S. Homeland Security Investigations revealed. That is when Ana Paulina Araujo Gonzalez tried to drive from Texas into Mexico but was stopped for an inspection. Authorities asked her if she was carrying weapons or cash in excess of $10,000, and she said no, court documents revealed.

The attack took place on Monday shortly after 2 a.m. at a drug rehab clinic in Culiacan, Sinaloa, the El Debate newspaper reported. A group of gunmen arrived at the clinic and immediately began shooting at anybody they found inside. Preliminary reports point to the group looking for the clinic’s owner. The gunmen fired at anybody else they encountered. By the time authorities arrived, the gunmen had killed eight victims and injured six others.

The assault occurred Friday evening when Mexican journalist Stephanie Palacios went back to a shopping plaza right outside of the San Cosme Metro Station in the Cuahutemoc borough of Mexico City. The journalist returned to the scene to record and photograph a series of cameras that she previously reported on. Earlier this week, Palacios reported on the cameras inside the women’s restroom at the popular shopping center. The bathrooms are public, and the owners charge $7 pesos for their use.

The arrest occurred Wednesday evening in Brownsville during a traffic stop by Cameron County Constables from Precinct 2. The deputy teamed up with federal authorities, who took the Mexican national into custody.
