Nike ZoomX Vaporfly 4 Sole Unit With most of the Nike elite athletes preferring the Alphafly 3 for racing marathons in, the Vaporfly 4 is now geared more towards the shorter distance races: 5K, 10K and half marathons. We know this because of the stack height and the weight reduction of v4. The Alphafly has deeper cushioning now and is more tailored to marathons.

Hoka One One Bondi 9 Sole Unit A lot of runners assume that the Bondi is the softest Hoka in the range because it’s the max-cushioned trainer. The Clifton is softer and plusher but the Bondi has more impact protection with zero ground feel because of its uber thick midsole.

Brooks Hyperion Elite 4 PB Sole Unit The previous version didn’t feel like a $250 super shoe but the Hyperion Elite 4 PB definitely does and it feels just as fast as other flagship, long-distance racers. It no longer has a flat ride thanks to its new DNA Gold midsole foam which feels a lot more springy. I raced a 10K in it and although it wasn’t my absolute fastest time, the shoe’s design and technology undeniably contributed to a speed boost.
