All those extra reps paid off for the Saddlelites (6-5-6) as they outlasted Detroit Country Day for a 2-1 victory following a penalty kick shootout during the Division 3 regional championship on June 5.

The Northville baseball team proved in the Division 1 regional semifinal on June 4 that football shouldn't be the only sport considered a game of inches. The defending state champions edged Kensington Lakes Activities Association-West rival Plymouth 2-1, somehow coming up with a handful of close-call plays that kept the momentum from swinging in favor of the Wildcats. The Mustangs (23-13-1) will face West Bloomfield in Saturday's regional championship at Novi High School.

This past weekend, Michael Fernandez struck out 10 batters in a 12-0 win over Whitmore Lake, helping Plymouth Christian Academy win the Division 4 district championship for the 13th time in program history. To say the Eagles, ranked No. 4 in the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association's final poll, were hungry for redemption would be an understatement. Their goal since four-person winter workouts began has been to make up for last year's early postseason exit.
