A man and woman sustained critical injuries Tuesday morning after being shot multiple times inside their Mercedes-Benz SUV in North Philadelphia, according to police. Philadelphia police detectives are still looking for the gunman, who they believe was riding in a silver or gray-colored sedan. As of 2:30 a.m., the man and the woman were listed in critical condition.

About 40,000 runners from across the region, including members of Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro's family, participated in the 46th annual Broad Street Run Sunday morning. The 10-mile race began near Jefferson Einstein Medical Center in North Philadelphia and ended at the Navy Yard, near the confluence of the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers. Shapiro and his two sons hung out at the finish line to cheer on first lady Lori Shapiro and their daughter, Sophia Shapiro.

Wildfires are worsening the Philadelphia region's air quality, according to the American Lung Association's annual State of the Air report. The health organization gave failing grades to Philadelphia and parts of South Jersey, including Gloucester, Mercer and Ocean Counties. Kevin Stewart, the American Lung Association's environmental health director, blamed the record-setting Canadian wildfires in 2023 for contributing to the region's poor air quality.
