Balo tosses perfect game for Rosecrans baseballNEWTON TOWNSHIP — John Glenn's girls and Tri-Valley's boys picked up team titles at the annual Jerry Neal Invitational at the Maysville Athletic Complex. Jessica Church, Brayden Snider and Ashlynn Kuklica won three events for the Muskies, who totaled 139 points to edge Tri-Valley (115 1/2) in the 12-team event featuring eight Muskingum Valley league teams and Rosecrans.

DRESDEN — Winning pitcher Gavin Harrold and Quinton Hindel combined on the five-inning no-hitter in Tri-Valley's 10-0 win over John Glenn in Muskingum Valley League baseball on May 7. Harrold had six strikeouts in three innings and added a double, a single and two RBIs for the Tri-Valley offense. Brady Kaufman also doubled, singled and drove in three runs and Ryan Lamonica swatted two doubles, brought in three runs and scored twice for the winners, who remained perfect in MVL play.

CROOKSVILLE — Being an inspiration was one of the motivating factors behind Crooksville senior Hunter Browning signing his letter of intent. He was one of three Ceramics to be recognized for that achievement on May 6, as Browning will wrestle for NCAA Division II Wheeling (West Virginia) University. Bo White signed to play golf for NCAA Division II Ohio Dominican and Konlan McIntyre will play basketball for Division III Muskingum University to round out the trio.

The softball tournament is just over a week away, and the remainder of spring sports are also closing in on the postseason. Last week's athlete of the week winners were Crooksville's Dalena Rollison earning 13,851 votes on the girls side, ahead of River View's Regan Foster with 10,339, while the boys leader was John Glenn's Cooper Fitzgerald with 24,419 votes. Rosecrans' Coen Grandstaff in second (18,910). Here are this week's nominees for both. You can vote until noon on Thursday.

There is one week remaining in the regular season for softball teams, and they found out their tournament draws on Sunday. The Division III bracket saw Sheridan earn the second seed in the Southeast District, while Dover was the top seed in the East District. Top seed Chillicothe welcomes the winner of fourth seed Chillicothe Unioto and fifth seed Miami Trace at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 15, while the Generals host the winner of third seed Athens or sixth seed Marietta at 5 p.m. May 15.
