Biden came into the debate already trailing former President Donald J. Trump and under enormous pressure to do well, given the dire situation Democrats were facing on the ground in the swing states.

Alleged serial killer Stacy Lee Drake has been captured in Morrilton, Arkansas, after a 22-mile car chase. Authorities believe that Drake murdered a 62-year-old Tuscaloosa man, Rusty Anderson, last month. Investigators say that Anderson was found shot to death at the local Alcoholics Anonymous clubhouse off Jack Warner Parkway on May 14. Drake, a 50-year-old transient, was found in a wooded area in Morrilton, population 7,000, in Conway County, Arkansas, after an extensive manhunt by authorities.

On Thursday, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall joined a coalition of 18 state attorneys general in sending a letter to President Joseph Biden stating opposition to Biden’s action in the Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Certain Palestinians Presidential Memorandum of February 14, 2024. “Though we are in the midst of a well-recognized immigration crisis caused by President Biden’s disastrous policies, Biden continues to press for even more open borders,” said AG Marshall.

On Tuesday Democratic voters went to the polls in Birmingham’s House District 52 to select their next state representative. No candidate was able to surpass the 50% threshold needed to win the Democratic Party nomination without a runoff. The top two vote getters advanced to a July 16 runoff: Kelvin Datcher and Frank Woodson. Datcher received 37.95% while Woodson received 17.78%. Only 1,344 votes were cast. Datcher is the deputy director of community development for the City of Birmingham.

Senators Katie Britt, Tommy Tuberville, Eric Schmitt, and colleagues introduced a bipartisan bill to strengthen opportunities for Americans with disabilities. On Friday, U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Alabama) announced that she has joined Senator Eric Schmitt (R-Missouri) in introducing the bipartisan Ensuring Nationwide Access to Better Life Experience (ENABLE) Act. Sen. Tuberville has also signed on as a cosponsor of this legislation.
