The Washington County Schools Board of Education approved a plan to increase the annual preschool tuition fee from $4,625 to $5,500 at Thursday’s regular meeting. According to documents provided by the district, tuition costs will be collected by families in ten monthly payments of $550 from August through May, beginning next school year.

Washington County Schools officials returned to the drawing board yet again this week to devise new ways to address a multimillion-dollar funding deficit going into next year. Superintendent Jerry Boyd said during a special called meeting on Tuesday that the district will use $2 million from its general fund balance to reduce its projected $6.1 million deficit to $4.1 million. He said the school system plans to ask county leaders to help close the gap with about $3 million.
