But, in a few days, I will be leaving as Public Service Commissioner with a heart full of gratitude for the trust, loyalty, and support that the people of north Mississippi have shown me for the past sixteen years.

Together, we accomplished a ton of good things that will transform our state for decades to come.

Derek Willis If there’s one state that justifies the need for OpenElections, it’s Mississippi. Unlike some other states that don’t have a centralized election results system, Mississippi does. Each of the state’s 82 counties uses the same form to report official results to the Secretary of State.

Growing up, my family knew we couldn’t afford a doctor, and so we avoided going at all costs. My mama knew she was facing a health problem for years but put off seeing a doctor because she couldn’t afford it. My sister and I had to force her to go to the doctor, and we were lucky enough to have her for one more year after that. But putting off getting healthcare caught up to her, and she passed away too soon from congestive heart failure.

The legislative session just ended in Mississippi, and once again, Tate Reeves left working families behind and showed zero backbone to stand up for our rights as citizens. Like everything you and I know about Tate Reeves, there’s always plenty of money and government positions for his buddies and campaign contributors, but there isn’t ever enough money to fully fund public education or our rural hospitals. If you are regular folks, then he doesn’t know you and couldn’t care less about you.
